Flugplatz PeselhoekBack Westvleterseweg, Poperinge
Here you can see the control tower of an airfield built by German occupying forces in 1940. The airfield was only used for a year. The control tower is very well made and in very good condition. The tower is made of brick and has a square base measuring 5.7 metres. It is no less than 13 metres high. The corners of the tower are rounded at the top. Inside the tower there are several floors, starting with a lower floor that is half underground. Then you have a ground floor, with three more floors above and then the roof. Remains of the wooden flooring can still be found on the different floors. On the roof there is a brick foundation for a searchlight. The tower must have had a glass dome, which was probably to mislead the British.
