This shore battery was built by German occupying forces in 1941. Over the years they kept extending the battery. Its main armament consisted of four heavy, 28 cm railway guns on turntables. There were also six anti-aircraft pieces and various light artillery pieces. The battery was supplied by a railway line behind the dunes. You can still see the impressive fire control bunker where calculations of target distance and speed were made. Apart from the fire control bunker, you can see a personnel bunker below ground.
